I am making a very serious face here, people

Ok, so I promised an update about my Dad. He’s doing really well. Doctors can’t believe how well he’s doing. He is up and around at home like nothing ever happened. I am not kidding. He looks a little older and paler but other than that, he looks fabulous for a guy who spent 2 months in the hospital.

Unfortunately, his docs at the hospital(maybe the one’s who knocked the tooth into his lung?) decided to take down his depression meds. He was on 125 mgs, now he is on 25mgs. Um, seriously, assholes? You take him down that far after he loses a month of his life? Morons. So, now, I can see a major difference in his personality. He is REALLY crabby, irritable and pretty much an all around bear alot of the time. This is the main symptom of his depression. He is Mr Angry McAngrypants. Who wouldn’t be after all that he’s been through? Luckily, we have convinced him that they need to up his dosage so he is going to go to his GP and get evaluated again. He doesn’t go to a Psychiatrist because “he doesn’t believe in that stuff” even though he takes meds, he refuses therapy. That’s my Daddy! So, hopefully, all that gets sorted out before my mother throws herself in front of a moving vehicle just so she doesn’t have to be in the same house with “Angry Dad”.

I’m a firm believer in anti-depressants and their benefits Deb! I hope he gets his raised to a more therapeutic level. I upped my dosage not long ago. I was on 50 mg. and now am at 75 mg. and I’m OK with that. (It beats the alternative)

Glad to hear he is doing so much better!

I’m so happy for you that your dad is doing well. I can’t believe they decreased him by that amount at one time! WTF is wrong with them?? I know whenever my antidepressants are changed, I go thru major changes. It feels like your skin is crawling…literally. Poor guy, I’d be crabby too!

Thanks 3T! I know, I am a believer also that’s why I am so steamed about their lack of belief!

Happy happy to you too, Stranger!

Fane-Thanks! I know! WTF? indeed! We think that some of his “ICU PSychosis” after the surgery was Effexor withdrawl because the docs said it wasn’t absorbing! Can you imagine??

Since your dad’s depression was caused by this entire hospital episode, I don’t think he needs talk therapy–just meds. If you can get him to see a psychiatrist, that would be best because they know how these types of medications work way better than GPs do. As you probably know, psych appointments are only 20 minutes long. I wish him well.
